A family man who loved horse racing has had a cup race named in his honour for the third year.
Patrick Phillips, 62, of Caerphilly, passed away in August 2014 from a heart attack.
Family and friends first clubbed together in 2015 to sponsor a race for riders to contest the Patrick Phillips Cup – donated again this year by family friend Robert Hughes.
The 3.10pm Welsh Long Distance Men’s Open Race at the Tredegar Farmers’ Hunt Point-to-Point Steeplechases was held on Sunday May 7 at Rhyd-y-Gwern in Lower Machen.
The race, which was sponsored by Patrick’s sons Ciaran and Greg Phillips, and close friend Mike Farrugia, was won by Sir Du Bearn.
Greg said: “The weather was perfect and made for a great day out from budding horse racing fans to families enjoying the range of stalls and eateries.”
