BBC Journalist Rory Cellan-Jones visited Risca Community Comprehensive on Monday, November 12 to discuss the issue of Fake News with pupils.
Mr Cellan-Jones, who is the BBC’s technology corespondent, began with a short talk followed by a question and answer session with 130 pupils.
He then hosted a workshop with 14 to 15-year-olds, who were tasked with being social media journalists publishing a breaking news story.
This event was made possible by charity Speakers for Schools.
Cllr Philippa Marsden, Caerphilly County Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Education and Achievement said: “ Learning from experts in their fields, like Rory from BBC, is a huge advantage for students to gain real insights into how the working world works and I would like to thank both Rory and Speakers for School for making this happen.”
Mr Cellan-Jones’ visit coincides with the launch of a new initiative by the BBC against Fake News.
