The New Forge pub in Brynhoward Terrace

A planning application to partially demolish a disused Oakdale pub to make way for a Co-op and a Greggs was approved back in June 2018.

Since then nothing has happened on the site of The New Forge Pub in Brynhoward Terrace – but the developer now wants to submit a new application to completely demolish the building and add 16 new flats to the scheme.

Twelve flats, which the develop says will be ‘affordable’ will be built in the same block as the Co-op and Greggs, while the remaining four will be in a separate block.

Actoris Property Limited, as part of the planning process and before it submits an application, has to carry out a public consultation. It has set up a website where people can look at the plans and leave their comments.

Previous opposition

Despite their approval by Caerphilly County Borough Council in 2018, the original plans without the flats, were opposed by residents.

A total of 139 letters of objection were gathered with 291 signatures. Concerns were expressed over the loss of the Co-op to Oakdale village and worries about the impact of delivery vehicles entering and leaving the site.
