Dispersal orders will be in place in Newbridge, Cefn Fforest, and part of Blackwood this weekend, Gwent Police has announced.

The orders will be in place from 4pm on Friday and will remain in place until 3am on Sunday.

Police confirmed the orders are being put in place to tackle antisocial behaviour.

A Gwent Police spokesperson told Caerphilly Observer the orders are being put in place “due to an increase in calls relating to groups of people congregating, antisocial behaviour and criminal damage”.

Police will have the power to stop people from entering these areas between this time if they believe they have engaged or will engage in antisocial behaviour.

If they return to those areas after being moved on, they face being arrested.

Newbridge dispersal order

The area covered by this weekend’s dispersal order will be the exact same as was covered by the dispersal order in April.

The area includes the Calzaghe Bridge, the business park where McDonald’s and The Otter are located, Newbridge Comprehensive School and Newbridge Leisure Centre – which is currently operating as a mass coronavirus vaccination centre.

It also covers Beynon Street, Blaen Blodau Street, Bridge Street, Celymen Road, Grove Street and High Street.

Cefn Fforest dispersal order

The dispersal order will cover most of the northern part of Cefn Fforest, as well as parts of Blackwood.

Affected streets in Cefn Fforest include: Bedwellty Road, Penybryn Avenue, Pencoed Avenue, Tynycoed Crescent, Craiglas Crescent, Cefn Fforest Avenue, Derwendeg Avenue, Hillcrest Close, Waun Borfa Road, Central Avenue,

Meanwhile, Blackwood Showfield will also be covered by the order, alongside Addison Street, Bevan Crescent, Wheatley Place, Greenwood Road, Caernarvon Place, Conway Court, and part of Beaumaris Way.

Dispersal orders were put in place in both Newbridge and Cefn Fforest last month, while action was also taken in the Springfield area of Pontllanfraith.

So far this month, there have been orders put in place on two separate weekends in Bargoed, while an order was in force in Rhymney last weekend.

Gwent Police’s Caerphilly Officers Twitter account posted news of the latest set of dispersal orders, with a caption that read: “Please remind your children that antisocial behaviour is not acceptable and will be dealt with robustly.”
