Two decomposed cats have been found inside bags along a footpath in Caerphilly town.

Animal welfare charity RSPCA Cymru has described the discovery as “very suspicious” and has appealed for information.

The cats, one of which had Christmas decorations attached to its body, were found along a footpath behind Rhiw’r Coetir, near Gallagher Retail Park, on Thursday, May 13.

One of the cats appears to be black and white, while the other is a female tabby.

No microchips were found on the bodies.

RSPCA inspector Gemma Cooper said: “I’m very concerned about this very suspicious and alarming discovery of two decomposed cats found in blue rubble sacks.

“The fact there are two cats makes this far more worrying – as it suggests there may be more at play here than an old deceased pet being dumped inappropriately.

“A member of the public found the cats on a footpath behind Rhiw’r Coedtir on 13 May – but the cats aren’t chipped, and we have few further details.”

She added: “We’d urge anyone who may be able to help to telephone 0300 123 8018 with information.”
