Coronavirus restrictions in Wales could be relaxed again this week.

Welsh Government ministers are set to meet again this for their 21-day coronavirus review, with the easing of restrictions within people’s homes and other indoor spaces set to be discussed.

The outcome of the review will be announced on Wednesday, July 14.

The Welsh Government is set to publish an updated version of its Coronavirus Control Plan, which will outline what happens beyond the current Alert Level 1 – including the creation of a new ‘Alert Level 0’.

The new, lower tier of restrictions will see face masks remain compulsory in certain settings, such as on public transport and taxis, as well as well as health and social care settings.

Whether or not face masks will remain compulsory in other settings, such as in shops, will be discussed.

In England, all remaining coronavirus restrictions will be axed from July 19 – meaning face masks and social distancing will no longer be compulsory.

However, face masks are here to stay in Wales for as long as coronavirus poses a threat to public health, the Welsh Government has said.

First Minister Mark Drakeford said: “We will need everyone’s help to keep coronavirus under control as we continue to respond to the pandemic – this virus has quite certainly not gone away.

“We know many people are still worried and anxious about going out. We will maintain the requirement to wear face coverings in certain places – on public transport and health and social care settings, and others where necessary – to help keep us all safe.”
