The Bryn Meadows Caerphilly 10k race has been postponed until May, organisers Caerphilly County Borough have confirmed.

The race had been scheduled to go ahead on September 12, but has been pushed back due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The 2k race, which runs alongside the 10k, has also been postponed until May.

In a statement, the council said that while restrictions are easing and the vaccination numbers are increasing, the planned date in September would have been “too soon” to allow the race to go ahead.

Council leader Philippa Marsden said the decision has been made “in the interest of public safety”.

Cllr Marsden added: “We fully appreciate that many of you are looking forward to joining us in what is always a fantastic occasion for the county borough.

“But for public health, and that of our spectators, volunteers, event staff and the wider population – we believe that this decision is necessary and will allow the event to reach its full potential when it is deemed safe to do so.”

All entries will be automatically transferred to the new date next year, while information around road closures will be revealed nearer to the event, the council has said.

The annual race was last held in May 2019.
