Charity volunteers have raised more than £700 after organising a ‘Teddy Bear Picnic’

The event was held at Bedwas Rugby Club on August 26, and was organised by the Marie Curie Caerphilly Fundraising Group.

In total, £731 was raised for Marie Curie, which provides care and support to people with terminal illnesses and their families.

The event had cake sales and a tombola to raise funds for the charity, as well as a performance from magician Rich Relish.

More than £1,000 raised for charity through mince pie and mulled wine delivery

Glanmor’s donated bread rolls for the event, while Peter’s Pies donated sausages and burgers.

A stall was set up by volunteer Helen Wilkes, selling brand new toys which had been donated by GE Aviation, which has a factory in Nantgarw.

Event organisers thanked St John’s Ambulance volunteers, firefighters from Caerphilly Fire Station and officers from Bedwas Police Station, who were also in attendance at the event.

Anyone interested in joining the Caerphilly Fundraising Group and supporting them with future fundraising events and bucket collections can contact Charli Thomas on 07881 811798 or charli.thomas@mariecurie.org.uk.

Marie Curie’s information and support line, which is based in Pontypool, can be accessed free of charge on 0800 090 2309 or visit mariecurie.org.uk/help/support.
