A charity rock concert in support of Ukraine will be held at Bedwas Workmen’s Hall on Saturday, April 16.

The ‘Ukraine Rocks’ concert has been organised by charitable organisation Moose International, which has a lodge on Pentwyn Road, Blackwood.

The concert will showcase a host of bands from across south Wales, with all ticket sales going towards the ongoing humanitarian effort in Ukraine.

Colin Williams, who is the Vice Convener of Moose International, as well as the lead singer of the band Moosehead, said the concert will be just one element of the charity’s efforts to support Ukraine. 

Speaking to Caerphilly Observer about the charity, Colin said: “Moose International has been going for 100 years and we try to pick one cause a year to focus on. 

“The Ukraine donation appeal has been the most positive yet. Everyone in the community has really come together for this cause. We’ve got donations stacked from ceiling to floor.

“We have already sent three lorries full of items including first aid kits, blankets and clothes into Ukraine. With the spare clothes, we can even look to donate to refugees when they arrive in Wales.”

After seeing the response, Colin got in contact with Cllr Chris Morgan, the Chair of the Bedwas, Trethomas, Machen Community Council. Together they began putting the event together, reaching out to bands across south Wales.

Colin said: “Every band we spoke to wanted to get involved, even though they’d be playing for free.

“We’ve recently landed a presenter, with plans to film the event and get it on social media so the donations can continue.”

Some of the bands performing include Midnight Hour; Sonic Highway; Trep; Mahogany Dog; Long Shadows; Autumn Killers; Adam and the Hellcats; and Moosehead.

Colin said he would love the Workmen’s Hall, which holds around 480 people, to be packed out on the night. He said: ”We really want to make this an event. There are local food companies outside so there’s plenty to keep people busy.

“All of the money raised will be sent directly via Moose International. It’s important to us that it goes to the right places.”
