A former community chapel which has stood for more than 100 years is set to be converted into a home.

Chapel of Ease in Abercarn was built in 1876 and rebuilt in 1895, but hasn’t operated as a chapel for a number of years.

The plans, which include an open plan living area  and mezzanine floor, were approved by planning officers at Caerphilly County Borough Council.

Eight garages on Oak Street are to be demolished as part of the development and will be replaced with two new garages and a garden office. Additionally, an outdoor kitchen is included in the plans.

The plans state that the demolition or construction work will not effect the surrounding woodland.

The decision report states that the change would not have an overbearing impact on neighbouring properties because the building is positioned lower than the houses opposite.
