Free public access Wi-Fi is now available in both Bargoed and Ystrad Mynach town centres.

It comes after free public access Wi-Fi was installed in Rhymney and Risca town centres, with plans for it to also be brought to Blackwood, Caerphilly and Newbridge town centres in the “coming weeks”.

The Wi-Fi has been installed by Caerphilly County Borough Council, using funding from the Welsh Government’s Transforming Towns Fund and the former Rhymney Valley Task Force Fund.

The council’s Deputy Leader, Cllr Jamie Pritchard, said the free internet connection will help “draw people back to local town centres as a destination as many people continue to work from home”.

He continued: “It aims to promote local shops and services and create a different town centre experience.

“Free public access Wi-Fi offers opportunities for people with limited or no broadband to access vital local council, government and health services and take part in the digital economy.”

According to the council, devices can be connected to the Wi-Fi from a “vast area in and around the town centre”.

The internet is available through the FreeCCBCWifi network, with users needing to register their details before using it for the first time.
