Port Talbot-based contractor Andrew Scott Ltd has been chosen to build the new Ysgol Gymraeg Cwm Gwyddon.

Moving the school from Abercarn to its new site, where Cwmcarn High School used to be, was approved by Caerphilly County Borough Council’s cabinet in July 2020. Planning permission was granted in January this year.

The new predominantly single storey building will have a capacity for 420 pupils and 94 nursery infants.

Part of the development will be built on Cwmcarn High School’s former car park and playing field.

Approximately 132 car parking spaces are proposed in the development – including four disabled spaces and 61 reserved for drop-offs and pick-ups.

Ysgol Gymraeg Cwm Gwyddon is due to open to pupils at its new site in September 2023.

Acting Headteacher Helen Marsh said: “This is a really exciting time for us as a school community. Everyone has been involved in the process so far and we are really enthused to continue to play a vital role in the development. We are rapidly growing as a school and I am sure we can continue to maintain the excellent standard of education we have established in the new space and continue to grow and thrive.”
