Trains services along the Ebbw Valley line won’t be running on Thursday, August 18 or Saturday, August 20 due to rail strikes.

Services along the Rhymney line will be reduced to hourly services to and from Cardiff Central, running between 7.30am and 6.30pm.

The services will be affected due to strike action from the National Union of Rail, Maritime, and Transport Workers (RMT).

RMT is in a dispute with Network Rail, not Transport for Wales (TfW). However, as Network Rail controls the signals, TfW services will be impacted while strike action goes ahead.

TfW has told commuters to expect the services which are still running to be “extremely busy”, particularly early in the morning.

Disruption is also expected on the days before and after the strike action, with commuters advised to travel only if necessary on Wednesday, Friday and Sunday.

A TfW statement read: “Due to the shift patterns of Network Rail’s signallers and the significant challenges moving trains and crew to operate between strike days there is likely to be disruption.”

The statement also said: “Customers with existing non-season tickets valid for travel on Thursday, August 18 and Saturday, August 20 can use those tickets anytime between Wednesday, August 17 and Tuesday, August 23. Customers are encouraged to avoid travelling on Friday, August 19 and Sunday, August 21 as services are expected to be extremely busy.

“Alternatively, customers can claim a full refund, with no admin fee charged. Season ticket holders can apply for compensation via Delay Repay.”
