Pontllanfraith Rotary Club has welcomed its new president for the next 12 months.

David Curtis took on the role in July, taking over from outgoing president Edward Williams-Price.

During Mr Williams-Price’s tenure, the club was able to help three foodbanks with financial support following the Covid pandemic.

The club’s annual Christmas Sleigh returned last year as Covid restrictions eased, while 240 dictionaries were provided to all Year 6 pupils in schools in the area.

Club members were also able to hold their annual Businessman’s Lunch once again, while the support of Bryn Meadows Ladies days at Royal Ascot helped keep members busy throughout the year.

During lockdown, the group was able to extend its support far and wide, joining a microfinance scheme in September 2020.

Through the scheme, 91 loans have been made to people in 36 different countries across six continents. The loans go towards helping people with little money start their own businesses.
