Wales players celebrate after securing a World Cup play-off spot following their draw with Slovenia

Wales have been drawn against Bosnia and Herzegovina at home in the FIFA Women’s World Cup play-offs.

If Gemma Grainger’s side win that match, they will face Switzerland away in the final – with a place at next year’s World Cup, which is being hosted by Australia and New Zealand, up for grabs.

The play-offs consist of a one-legged semi-final and a final, similar to what the men’s side faced as they secured qualification for Qatar.

The Bosnia and Herzegovina match will be played on Thursday, October 6 – with the potential tie against Switzerland set for Tuesday, October 11.

However, unlike the men’s qualification process, the women could face an additional play-off against a non-European side, even if they were to beat Switzerland.

The two highest-seeded final winners will qualify automatically, while the third-seeded side will be entered into an inter-continental play-off, which will take place in New Zealand in February.

Wales sealed their play-off spot on Tuesday night with a 0-0 draw against Slovenia at Cardiff City Stadium in match which drew a record crowd for the national women’s team.
