With the festive season nearly upon us, Caerphilly County Borough Council has launched its annual Christmas appeal.

Operation Santa aims to provide Christmas presents to children in the borough at risk of not receiving presents.

The children who would receive presents from the appeal have been nominated by their social worker or support organisation, which will then buy the presents for the children and deliver them in time for Christmas.

As was the case last year, the council is unable to accept gift donations and is instead asking residents to donate cash or gift vouchers worth no more than £10. These will be used to buy gifts for the children and deliver them in time for Christmas.

Councillor Elaine Forehead, council cabinet member for Social Care, said: “Many are still feeling the effects of the pandemic and with the current cost-of-living crisis, it is vital to ensure that all children receive a gift this Christmas.

“Operation Santa is such a worthy cause and can only be achieved through the generous donations from businesses and residents of the borough.”

Cllr Forehead added: “On behalf of Caerphilly County Borough Council, I would like to thank all of those who have participated in the appeal previously for your donations and continuous support and I know that Operation Santa 2022 will be just as successful as previous years.”

Anyone wishing pledge cash or a gift voucher to the scheme can contact the council’s pledge line, which can be reached on 01443 866577 or operationsanta@caerphilly.gov.uk before Friday, November 25.

Visit the council’s website to make an online donation.

The council has asked anyone donating a gift voucher not to wrap it, but instead put it into an envelope and marked with the following information:

  • Title the envelope as ‘Operation Santa’;
  • Child’s age;
  • Boy or Girl;
  • Value of voucher/gift card.

Unwrapped gift cards need to be taken to collection centres, which will be open until Monday, November 28.

Collection centres will be located at:

  • Post box at the front of Penallta House (CF82 7PG);
  • Cwrt Rawlin Primary School (CF83 1SN);
  • Apex Estate Agents Bargoed (CF81 8QX);
  • Blackwood Miners’ Institute (NP12 1BB);
  • Barclay’s Bank Ystrad Mynach (CF82 7AA);
  • YMCA Office Bargoed (CF81 8JA);
  • Caerphilly Library (CF83 1JL);
  • Risca Library (NP11 6BW);
