Santa Claus is coming to town next week in his sleigh to raise money for local causes.

The visit, which is being organised by Caerphilly Lions Club, will see Father Christmas and his sleigh visit Asda Caerphilly on three different days.

The first visit will take place between 1.30pm and 6pm on Thursday, December 15.

The second visit will take place the following day between 3pm and 8pm, where he will be joined by his helpers.

The third and final visit is happening on Saturday, December 17 between 10am and 4pm.

Caerphilly Lions Club’s publicity officer, Alan Trevers, said: “We’re raising money for local charities.

“The sleigh will be large enough for children to sit in and have a photograph with Father Christmas. We also have a licence to play Christmas music.”

What is the Caerphilly Lions Club?

The Caerphilly Lions Club is a branch of Lions Club International, which is a global organisation with more than 1.4 million members and around 46,000 groups worldwide.

The group raises money for charitable causes. Up until recently, the club organised a annual peace poster competition to promote world peace among school pupils.

Recently, the club has raised money for Caerphilly-based homelessness and domestic abuse charity Llamau, and has also fundraised for the Trussell Trust and Ty Hafan in the past, among other causes.

Mr Trevers said: “We try to keep it local to the Caerphilly area.

“In previous years we’ve held collections at the fireworks displays and have raised as much as £6,000 on good years – but this has hasn’t happened this year and our fundraising has been hit as a result.”

The club currently has nine members but is on the lookout for new members. Anyone interested in joining can contact Alan Trevers on 07971424486 or Tony Evans on 07522362076.
