A new May Fair is coming to Bargoed this spring.
The event, which is being organised by Bargoed Town Council and Caerphilly County Borough Council, will take place on Saturday May 13.
Bargoed Town Council, which has put £15,000 into the event, said the event was being launched “in response to residents’ feedback”.
It added: “This event will involve a full road closure throughout the whole town centre and will include entertainment, children’s rides, family activities and various stalls.”
Town councillor Peter Collins told Caerphilly Observer this was something to look forward to.
“There’ll be something for everyone,” said Cllr Collins, “we’re bringing trade and custom to Bargoed.”
Businesses will be given the opportunity to “take up stalls or put tables up in from of their shops”, according to Cllr Collins. Stalls will be run by Crafty Legs.
Though plans are yet to be finalised, Cllr Collins hinted at some of the things which may be on offer – from subsidised rides for children, giant outdoor games such as skittles and chess, a possible petting zoo and a stage on Royale Square where bands, choirs and groups can perform. Fancy dress is also encouraged.
More events across the borough
The Bargoed May Fair is one of four spring events which will take place across Caerphilly County Borough.
Other events will include the first-ever Blackwood Spring Fair on March 4, the Ystrad Mynach Spring Fair on March 25 and the Caerphilly Food and Drink Festival on April 29.
The events will have funfair rides, street performances and trade stalls.
Council deputy leader Jamie Pritchard, who is also the cabinet member for Prosperity, Regeneration and Climate Change, said: “We want to ensure events are spread across the county borough, so the additional two dates in the diary will support our local traders by bringing greater numbers to our county borough’s high streets.
“Keep an eye out for news of additional events coming soon.”
The full list of events in Caerphilly county borough will soon be released and listed on visitcaerphilly.com.
The events programme is funded by a combination of funds from Caerphilly County Borough Council, and local town and community councils, with significant support from the UK Shared Prosperity Funding over the next two years.
