The coronation of King Charles III will be shown live on a big screen in Cardiff this spring, the UK Government has announced.

Cardiff Castle has been chosen as one of more than 30 locations across the UK – and the only one in Wales – where big screens will be set up to show the historic event.

The coronation of His Majesty the King and Her Majesty The Queen Consort takes place on Saturday May 6 at Westminster Abbey in London – the same place the late Queen Elizabeth II was crowned 70 years ago.

The UK Government has made more than £1m available for the screens, with more locations set to be announced in the near future.

UK Government Culture Secretary Lucy Frazer said: “The Coronation will be a magical moment that brings people together to celebrate the best of Britain over a special weekend in May.

“These big screens, in major locations in towns and cities in the four nations of the UK, will make it easier for everyone to take part and have a memorable experience to mark this exciting and historic event.”

Following the coronation weekend, Monday May 8 will be a bank holiday across the UK.
