23-year-old man in critical condition after car crash

A 23-year-old man remains in a critical condition following a car crash on Watford Road, Caerphilly, last week.

Gwent Police were called to the crash at around 10.20pm on Friday April 7, with a 23-year-old man taken to hospital.

A 35-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

He has since been released as police continue their investigation.

In a statement, Gwent Police said: “We received a report of a road traffic collision on the A469 junction, Watford Road, Caerphilly, at around 10.20pm on Friday April 7.

“Officers attended, along with personnel from the Welsh Ambulance Service and South Wales Fire and Rescue Service. The collision involved two cars – a silver Citroen C1 and a white Volkswagen transporter van.

“The driver of the Citroen C1 was taken to the University Hospital of Wales and remains in a critical condition. 

“The driver of the VW Transporter, a 35-year-old man, was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving. He has since been released as our investigation continues.”

Gwent Police are asking for any motorists who were travelling in the area between 9.30pm and 10.30pm on Friday April 7 to contact them. They have also encouraged anyone with dashcam or CCTV footage to do the same.
