Bargoed RFC have beaten Trebanos away from home

Trebanos 5-38 Bargoed, WRU National Championship, Saturday April 22

Bargoed bounced back from defeat to league leaders Pontypool with a bonus-point win at second-from-bottom Trebanos.

The Bulls scored six tries in the Swansea valley to keep the pressure on towards the top of the table.

However, it was Trebanos who opened the scoring on the day, taking an early 5-0 lead.

But it was short-lived as Lewys Lippiett’s try drew Bargoed level before a Josh Prosser conversion put the visitors ahead.

The lead was further extended when second-row Owain Cooper crashed over the line before winger Adam Jones got in on the act with Bargoed’s third try – giving the side a 19-5 lead at the break.

Just as they did in the first half, Trebanos started the second half as the better of the two sides, but this time they were unable to turn it into points.

Instead, Bargoed’s lead grew thanks to a try from Matthew Lewis, securing the four-try bonus-point.

But despite the scoreline going against Trebanos, the hosts put up a spirited fight and refused to back down. However, it wasn’t enough to stop Bargoed’s Tom Rice and Duane Dyer breaching their try-lines to wrap up the win.

Next up for Bargoed is an all-Caerphilly County Borough clash with Bedwas at home on Tuesday April 26, with a 7.15pm kick-off.
