New benches, railings, bins, a cycle rack and new lights will be fitted at Trinant square as part of its renovation.

Works are set to get underway from Monday May 15, weather permitting, and are expected to be complete by the end of the summer.

Caerphilly County Borough Council is behind the renovation, which is being carried out as part of its Welsh Housing Quality Standard (WHQS) environmental improvements programme.

The plans include renovating the areas around the trees at the front of the square, as well as removing cobbles and installing steel handrails.

The council has warned of disruption during the works, but has said it will do its best to keep disruption to a minimum.

The local authority confirmed access to Trinant Community Centre, Flying Start and the shops will be maintained during the works.

Cllr Shayne Cook, the council’s cabinet member for housing, said: “The WHQS programme saw over £260million invested into council-owned homes and communities throughout the county borough.

“Whilst the main programme has been completed, we are still delivering environmental projects that were identified as priorities by local communities during previous consultation.

“The works planned for Trinant will improve the appearance and accessibility of the square area, benefiting residents and local businesses.”
