Caerphilly Dragons Girls FC have capped a brilliant season by announcing 20 of their players have been selected to play for Caerphilly and District Schools Football.

The club has more than 300 members across ten different age groups, starting from under-fives through to under-15s.

Chairman James Law, who started the club back in 2019 after having a “kick-around” in the park with his daughter, spoke to Caerphilly Observer about how the season has gone.

He said: “It has been remarkable honestly. The girls have come on so much since we first started the club. When you look through the age groups the quality is there from early on.

“Our U14s won the league and cup double, our 15s reached a cup final and our 13s won a cup too. It’s been great.”

Law went on to say how there have been some standout players this season who will soon be capped for Caerphilly and District Schools.

“It’s a great experience for the players in a competitive environment. They play once a month against other schools in the area and the standard is always high.

“We try to keep the focus on having fun at the Dragons but it’s good to see some of our players taking the next step.

“We will have an U19s side next season, meaning we’ll have a team across every age group. It shows how far we have come in such a short time.”

To celebrate, the club has set up a family presentation day at St Martin’s School, where the club plays its games, on Sunday July 2.

Law added: “Every girl will receive a trophy on top of some standout awards. Welsh international Natasha Harding will also be there which will be amazing for the girls as she’s a real hero.”
