Blackwood Comprehensive pupils earned success at the Young Enterprise and Team Programme of the Year Awards

Budding entrepreneurs from Blackwood Comprehensive School have earned success at a Wales-wide business skills competition.

The Young Enterprise and Team Programme of the Year competition, hosted by charity Young Enterprise, required pupils to set up their own business and make all its business decisions, such as the company name and product.

It also required them to manage finances and sell to the public at trade fairs.

Blackwood Comprehensive’s BLK Clips project won several categories at the competition, including ‘Creativity and Innovation’ and ‘Most Appropriate for Export’ – as well as runner-up in the Best Company of the Year’ category.

The school’s headteacher, Jane Wilkie, said: “We are extremely proud of our pupils and their fantastic achievement. They worked incredibly hard to achieve this success, giving up a considerable amount of their own time to develop their company and its product.

“We are also very grateful to our staff, Mrs Cole and Ms Plumley, for supporting them throughout.”

Caerphilly County Borough Council’s cabinet member for education, Cllr Carol Andrews, said: “This contest is a fantastic and unique opportunity for budding entrepreneurs to gain first hand experience of running a business.

“I’d like to commend all pupils who took part in the contest and congratulate the team from Blackwood Comprehensive School on their success at these prestigious awards.”
