Crumlin RFC celebrate their Division Five Cup win at the Principality Stadium

Crumlin RFC has celebrated the best season in the club’s history, with its clubhouse packed for its annual presentation night.

In the 2022/23 season, the club lifted the WRU Division Five Cup at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium, having finished runners up there in the previous season.

The club also won the Division Five East league for the second year in a row and picked up the Monmouthshire Rugby Union Bryn Meredith Shield to a complete a treble.

Over the course of the season, Crumlin played 19 matches – winning 17.

The team scored 829 points in the process – including 182 tries thanks to their brand of running rugby.

Scott Barnes was the club’s top scorer with 128 points, while Dylan Foxwell was top try scorer with 17, while Corey Strickland scored 14.

The presentation night saw Strickland, alongside Jordan Hughes and Kyle Walton, receive awards for reaching 100 caps for the club during the season.

Meanwhile, plaques were also presented to the Jones family and the Hewlett family, both of which have had four generations playing for the club.

The night also saw Daniel Lewis crowned supporters player of the year, while Taylor Smith was named most improved plater.

Joel Whitcombe won the players’ player of the year, while Kyle Walton won player of the year.

The club person of the year award went to Emma Lewis.

As the club begins its preparations for the 2023/24 season, Ethan Chess has been confirmed as club captain for another year.

Training for next season is already underway, with sessions from 7pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays at the Kay Field.

With the club having won promotion last season, there will be more games this season – with games every week, including during the Rugby World Cup in September and October.
