The Bank coffee shop and post office, on High Street, will close in September

The Post Office has confirmed there is interest in opening a replacement branch in Newbridge after the Bank Coffee Shop announced it will be closing its branch in September.

In a statement last week, Ian Rosser of the Bank said that as well as the café side of the business shutting down, the post office inside would be closing as of September 22, with rising costs to blame.

Soon to be without a branch, Caerphilly Observer asked the Post Office if it was aware of any plans in the near future for Newbridge.

A spokesperson said: “We can confirm that the operator of Newbridge Post Office has sadly chosen to stop operating the branch and the last day of service will be September 22. We recognise that the economic climate is incredibly tough for postmasters.

“We have had an expression of interest from another operator but this is at a very early stage and we will keep the local community updated on any new operator for Newbridge Post Office.

“Crumlin Post Office is also located nearby and is open long hours seven days a week and will be able to serve local residents and businesses.”
