Treowen Stars FC have laid out their ambitious plans ahead of their Ardal South East opener on the road to local rivals Abercarn United.
After finishing a very respectable sixth and just 11 points off a promotion spot last season, first team manager Dean Randall is confident ahead of the season.
Speaking to Caerphilly Observer he said: “I’ve been here six seasons and we’ve come a long way. I believe we were a point off the bottom when I took over and we’ve improved massively on and off the field.
“I used to play for Aberbargoed Buds myself so it’s great to see them back in the league. It’ll be special to play against them.”
The Stars travel little more than two miles down the road for their opener, where they face newly promoted side Abercarn United in a true derby. On the game, Randall said: “I think they’ll have the ball to open the game but if we weather that I think we should be okay. It’s a great way to start the season.
“In general we’re feeling very confident and I don’t think we’ll be far away from top spot. Our goal has to be promotion.”
After a thumping 9-0 victory over St Joseph’s AFC in the JD Welsh Cup last week, Treowen will fancy their chances on the road this weekend.
They kick off against Abercarn at the Welfare Ground at 2:30pm on Saturday August 5.
