Repairs to the A469 are set to be delayed due to ‘unforseen circumstances’.

A section of the A469 which bridges over the Rhymney River near Gilfach, was set to be closed in both directions until September 1.

Caerphilly County Borough Council said “depressions” had been found on the road going over the bridge during a routine inspection.

Now, the road which is currently closed between Lewis School Pengam and the roundabout near Aberbargoed Fire Station will not reopen until September 6 due to ‘unforseen circumstances’.

In a public post, the council wrote: “Works to address defects within the carriageway on the A469 Rhymney River bridge near Bargoed are progressing well.

“The scheme commenced on July 22 and was originally scheduled to be completed on September 1, however due to unforeseen circumstances the works are now expected to be completed on September 6.

“We would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused during these essential works.”

Caerphilly Observer has contacted Caerphilly County Borough Council for more information on what has caused the delay.

Diversions will be in place along the A4049 Pengam Road and A472 while repair works are ongoing.

Bridge will close for six weeks for repair work
