Polls have now closed in the Penmaen ward by-election.

Votes have been cast throughout the day to elect a new Caerphilly County Borough councillor to the ward, following the death of Labour councillor Jim Sadler in May.

Polls closed at 10pm on Thursday August 31, having been open since 7am.

Three polling stations were open in the ward. These were at Oakdale Community Centre, Oakdale Sports Pavilion and Woodfieldside OAP Hall.

The candidates

Six candidates appeared on the ballot paper. In alphabetical order, by surname, they are:

  • Elizabeth Davies (Welsh Labour)
  • George Edwards-Etheridge (Independent)
  • Jonathan David Errington (Welsh Liberal Democrats)
  • Clayton Francis Jones (Gwlad)
  • Imogen Martin (Welsh Conservatives)
  • Andrew Short (Plaid Cymru)

The votes will be counted at Oakdale Community Centre, where the results of the by-election will be announced.
