Cllr Jamie Pritchard (second left) visited Terry’s Patisserie

An Aberbargoed-based business which counts clients such as Ascot Races and the RHS Chelsea Flower Show has received a £25,000 grant from the UK government.

Terry’s Patisserie received the funding through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF) to buy new specialist patisserie equipment.

The company was set up in Blackwood when Terry Williams discovered her passion for high-end patisserie and started operating out of the family home – before moving to Euro Business Park in Aberbargoed in 2011.

It sells hand-crafted patisserie products to hotels, restaurants, stadiums, and venues throughout the UK as well as the local community, including The New Continental Café in Bargoed and Llancaiach Fawr Manor, near Nelson.

The grant will go towards equipment to allow the company to boost its productivity, gain accreditation and a new software system.

Rhys Williams, director, and son of the eponymous Terry, said: “It was a very simple process, and it was great to be able to easily reach someone on the phone. The fact that the team have been flexible to suit the business is brilliant.”

Mr Williams also said there are plans to set up a click-and-collect service.

“We are encouraging people to use their local businesses and perhaps even discover places they didn’t realise existed, all while building our brand and getting our name out there.”

Alongside the click-and-collect service, Terry’s Patisserie aims to solidify its wholesale business in London and there are also hopes to set up a pastry academy in the local area for budding chefs.

Cllr Jamie Pritchard, council cabinet member for prosperity, regeneration and climate change, said: “It was great to visit Terry’s Patisserie for a look around the premises and to speak to the workforce. There was a friendly atmosphere, and it was good to hear the ambitions the company has following the financial support received.”
