Caerphilly Ladies Choir is hosting an Australian ladies choir to raise money for Wales Air Ambulance tomorrow night, Wednesday September 27.
The choir will be performing at Wesley Methodist Church in Caerphilly alongside Mornington Peninsula Welsh Ladies Choir, who are travelling from near Melbourne, Australia, to be part of the concert.
Speaking to Caerphilly Observer, Majorie Gray from Caerphilly Ladies Choir said: “The choir has some strong links with Australia, we welcomed a choir from Sydney in 2002 and 2014.
“This group has been all over Wales and we’re really excited to welcome the 45 of them to Caerphilly. They’re going to be singing more Welsh songs than us which will be fun.”
The Caerphilly-based choir will also be performing the Australian national anthem, which “will be easier” after Wales’ World Cup win over the Aussies on Sunday night, Ms Gray joked.
Ms Gray also explained how the choir looks to pick a different charity to support for each concert, when asked why they chose Wales Air Ambulance, she said: “One of the ladies in the group has the air ambulance to thank after they saved her grandson twice this year.
“We never charge to perform and if everything’s arranged we’re happy to show up and raise money for a good cause.”
Soloist Connie Garcia will also perform, with the concert due to begin at 7.30pm after a few words from Caerphilly Town Mayor Mike Prew.
Tickets are £5 and can be bough on the door.
Anyone who wants to book the choir for a concert, or is interested in joining the choir, can visit the choir’s website or Facebook page, or contact the choir secretary on 02920 885612.
