There could be as many as four sides from Caerphilly County Borough in the fourth round of the FAW Amateur Trophy – the second biggest cup competition in Wales.

Trophy holders Trethomas Bluebirds are amongst the names through to the fourth round, alongside league rivals Risca United.

Wattsville and Aber Valley could clash in what would be a derby if the pair manage to win their round three games first.

Trethomas Bluebirds

Trethomas Bluebirds’ defence of the trophy continues after they beat local rivals Aberbargoed Buds 3-2 in the third round.

The fourth round draw took place on Wednesday November 3 where the Bluebirds discovered they’d be hosting Ardal South West side Port Talbot Town.

Port Talbot have had a difficult season so far, winning just two league games from 12. They sit one from the bottom and may have their focus elsewhere when the pair meet on Saturday November 25.

For Trethomas, their attention may be on the league for a different reason. Mark Dunford’s side have a 100% record this season in every competition.

As great as their run has been, the focus this season has to be on promotion into the JD Cymru South with the Bluebirds sitting comfortably top of the Ardal South East.

Trethomas famously lifted the Amateur Trophy last season, after beating Denbigh Town in the final 2-1.

Before that match-up however, Trethomas have a much bigger game lined up in the Welsh Cup, where they’re due to face reigning Cymru Premier champions, The New Saints, on Saturday November 11.

Risca United

For Risca United, the focus is also on the league this season, as Simon Berry’s side are desperate to get back into the Cymru South.

Their Amateur Trophy third round match was a chance to rotate the squad against Gwent Premier side, Clydach Wasps.

There was no chance of the Cuckoos being stung when the pair met on Saturday October 28, Risca ran-out 10-1 winners at the Centre for Sporting Excellence.

The next match should be a little tougher for Risca – depending on who they face out of Penlan AFC and Morriston Town.

Morriston Town are the likely winners of that one, as the pair meet to decide who will face Risca on Saturday November 4.

Like Port Talbot Town, they too play in the Ardal South West, and sit ninth. Morriston have won five of their last six however, meaning Risca must mind their work if they are to move past the Swansea side.

Wattsville and Aber Valley

Although both sides still have to win their third round matches, Wattsville and Aber Valley could face each other in an all-Caerphilly clash in round four.

To do that, Aber Valley have to navigate a way past Llangeinor FC, who play two divisions below the South Wales Alliance League (SWAL) Premier side.

Aber Valley, who are still yet to lose a league game this season, and sit sixth with multiple games in hand.

Wattsville meanwhile will have their work cut out against Cardiff Bay Warriors, who sit above the Gwent Premier side in Division One West of the SWAL.

Wattsville have struggled this season, with just one league win to their name, so they’ll need a big showing if they want to book their place in a potential derby against Aber Valley.
