St David’s Hospice Care has closed down its latest charity shop in Machen, just two months after it opened.

The Commercial Road shop, next door to the Co-op, had faced criticism from members of the public, and had to apologise for turning away donations in September.

Emma Saysell, the charity’s chief executive, said the shop had been forced to close due to “unforeseen circumstances” along with “complex issues”.

She added: “We are saddened, but we want to reassure people that we are grateful for their support and that all donations will be used in our other shops.”
