Newbridge‘s strong start to the season continued over the weekend with a 36-23 win away at Caerphilly County Borough rivals Bedwas.

The victory sees Newbridge stay third in the WRU National Championship East table, but sends Bedwas – who have now lost three on the bounce – to second bottom.

There was also another win for Bargoed this weekend, with the title-chasing Bulls beating Cardiff Met 28-14 at home to keep the pressure on league leaders Ystrad Rhondda – who edged Penallta 28-27 in Ystrad Mynach.

Elsewhere in the second tier, Cross Keys moved up to fourth with a 19-18 win at Rumney.

Down in League One East, Ynysddu remain third after winning 23-18 at Dowlais – but there was disappointment for the other Caerphilly County Borough sides.

Nelson lost 24-14 at home to Blaenavon, while Senghenydd fell to a 29-16 defeat at home to Talywain.

Meanwhile, winless Risca‘s trip to high-flying Brynmawr was postponed.

Down in League Two East, Blackwood RFC moved top of the table following a 31-25 win over Caerleon.

There was also a first league win of the season for Oakdale, who won 13-8 at home to Caldicot to move from the foot of the table.

Over in League Two East Central, there was success for Caerphilly, who defeated Cilfynydd 24-7 at Virginia Park.

Elsewhere, Abercarn‘s grip on the top of League Three East remains tight following a 25-20 win at Chepstow.

In other results, Fleur de Lys got the better of Machen in an all-Caerphilly County Borough affair, earning a narrow 27-26 home victory.

Abertysswg Falcons also recorded a win, beating Nantyglo 30-26.

But there was disappointment for Rhymney, who drop to third in the table after a 19-17 home loss to Blaina, who now move above them in second.

Dropping down to League Four East, league leaders Crumlin earned a 34-20 victory away at Blackwood Stars.

However, Hafodyrynys fell to a 23-10 home loss to Gwernyfed, while Bedwellty lost at home to New Panteg 30-7.

New Tredegar‘s visit to Crickhowell was postponed, as was Hollybush‘s trip to West Mon in the division below.

Finally, there was a resounding away win for Trinant in League Six East, beating winless borough rivals Cwmcarn United 53-12. However, Deri‘s clash with Trefil was called off.
