A brand new skate park has been unveiled in Maesycwmmer following an investment of more than £150,000 from Caerphilly County Borough Council.

In recent years, the council is investing in new skate parks across the borough as part of its Welsh Housing Quality Standard (WHQS) programme, which has seen £260m invested into improving council housing throughout the borough.

The latest skate park has opened on Hill View as part of wider improvements across Maesycwmmer, including new play park equipment and a new outdoor gym.

An extra £30,000 was put into the project by Maesycwmmer Community Council.

Cllr Shayne Cook, Caerphilly Council’s cabinet member for housing, said: “As we near the end of delivery of the environmental improvements element of the programme, it’s fantastic to see that we are continuing to meet the needs of our communities.

“Access to free, suitable outdoor spaces for sport and recreation is incredibly important to health and wellbeing, particularly as the cost-of-living crisis continues to impact on families’ disposable income.

“The new facilities in Maesycwmmer are an excellent example of how the WHQS programme has provided spaces which cater for a range of ages and abilities.”
