Primary school children have been busy planting daffodils in their community.

Pupils in Years 5 and 6 at Penllwyn Primary, Pontllanfraith, worked with Keep Wales Tidy to plant bulbs at Penllwyn Circle.

The children made sure no worms were hurt during the planting, and re-covered any that were accidentally dug up.

Andrew King, Project Officer at Keep Wales Tidy, said: “It was a pleasure to work with Penllwyn Primary School pupils again and support them in understanding the importance of actively looking after their local community.”

The project was organised by the volunteer-led charity Penllwyn Community Partnership, with sponsorship provided by Paul Horne Stonework.

Penllwyn Community Partnership treasurer, Chris Lloyd, said: “We are a small community group of volunteers, but are focused on improving our local area to make it the best that it can be.

“We are delighted to see our young volunteers stepping in to help. I know we are all eager to see the daffodils come into bloom in spring.”
