A grassroots scheme which helps parents meet the costs of school uniforms has been honoured for its work.
Caerphilly Uniform Exchange, based on Atlee Court in Caerphilly’s Lansbury Park, was named the winner of Van Community Council’s inaugural Community Champions Awards.
Lisa Watkins, who founded the uniform exchange, said “We are delighted to win the award.

“We love working in Lansbury – this is a great community.”
Jennifer Jones and Vicky Jones were also recognised for their voluntary efforts, with each collecting a runners-up award. The pair also help run the Cwtch cafe at the community centre.

Both give up their time for the uniform exchange as well as Van Community Centre and local play groups.
Community councillor Sheila Jones said: “It’s so inspirational for those who are volunteering and making an improvement to the community.
“They are working so hard and deserve to be recognised and Lisa and her volunteers are doing phenomenal work in the uniform exchange.”
