Bargoed‘s WRU National Championship East title hopes were handed a boost after a 31-24 victory at home to Glamorgan Wanderers on Saturday January 13.
The Bulls are now just a point off top having played two games less than league leaders Ystrad Rhondda, who slipped to defeat at Cardiff Met.
There was also success for Bedwas at the expense of Penallta, with Bedwas beating their Caerphilly County Borough rivals 26-25 away from home.
The win sees Bedwas stay fifth, while Penallta sit bottom but one in 11th.
Elsewhere in the National Championship East, Newbridge remain fourth after a high-scoring 38-34 win at Rumney.
However, Cross Keys were beaten 41-30 at Beddau and drop to seventh.
Down in League One East, Ynysddu‘s promotion push continued with a crushing 45-13 win at Abergavenny.
Meanwhile, Nelson hosted local rivals Senghenydd in a mid-table clash – with the hosts claiming a 32-17 victory.
However, Risca were handed their ninth defeat in ten games, falling 25-20 at home to Blaenavon.
There was also defeat for Blackwood RFC down in League Two East. They were beaten 21-5 away to Garndiffaith and have dropped out of the promotion spots as a result.
However, it was a different story for Caerphilly in League Two East Central. The Cheesemen recorded a 56-7 win over Treharris at Virginia Park and remain fifth in the table.
Over in League Three East, table-toppers Abercarn stormed to a 59-17 win over Machen to maintain their lead at the summit.
Fourth-placed Rhymney also won on the weekend, beating RTB Ebbw Vale 51-36 in a high-scoring affair.
However, third-placed Fleur de Lys fell to a 32-14 defeat at Nantyglo.
In League Four East, Crumlin earned a 26-24 win over Newport Saracens to keep up their push for back-to-back promotions, while Bedwellty climb to fourth after a 34-5 derby win over relegation-threatened Blackwood Stars.
New Tredegar meanwhile recorded their first win of the season, beating winless St Julians HSOB 23-17 to secure a vital lifeline in the battle against the drop.
However, Hafodyrynys had no such luck in their relegation battle, losing 29-12 at Whiteheads to stay tenth in the division.
Dropping down to League Five East, Pontllanfraith have climbed to the top of the table after a 24-8 win over Abersychan Alexanders, while Hollybush sit second after beating West Mon 31-7.
Finally, Deri‘s unbeaten run has continued with a 57-3 demolition of Caerphilly County Borough rivals Trinant – making it seven wins in seven for the League Six East table-toppers.
However, Cwmcarn United‘s trip to Tredegar Ironsides was postponed.
