Works to improve safety at a busy junction in Caerphilly will get underway next week.

Concerns have been raised over pedestrian visibility at the junction between Pontygwindy Road and Heol Bro Wen, near the Green Lady pub.

Work to address these concerns will now begin on Monday February 12, coinciding with half-term, and is expected to last four weeks.

Morgan Jones ward councillor Shayne Cook said: “The existing crossing is obscured by a wall, so the crossing will be brought up to run parallel across. This will improve visibility for residents crossing.”

Cllr Jamie Pritchard, who also represents the ward, said: “There will also be a slight change to the angle of the bend to again make this busy crossing more pedestrian-friendly.”

Cllr Cook and Cllr Pritchard, alongside fellow-ward councillor Anne Broughton-Pettit, all attended a recent site meeting to discuss the works and welcomed the improvements.

The works are being funded by Caerphilly County Borough Council, after it secured funding from the Welsh Government’s Active Travel Fund grant.
