The WRU National Championship and national leagues resumed on Saturday February 17

With no Six Nations rugby over the weekend, clubs across Caerphilly County Borough were back in league action.

Bargoed‘s title push continued with a 40-25 win away to league leaders Cardiff Met in the WRU National Championship East.

The Bulls are now just one point behind Met, with two games in hand.

Elsewhere in the league, Cross Keys climbed to fifth after a 21-10 win over Rumney at Pandy Park, while Bedwas are one place behind after beating fellow borough-side Newbridge 19-16 away.

However, lowly Penallta were beaten on their travels, with third-placed Ystrad Rhondda condemning the pitmen to a 26-18 defeat.

Down in League One East, promotion-chasing Ynysddu recorded their 11th win in 14 games, overcoming Dowlais 24-17 at home.

However, at the opposite end of the table, bottom-place Risca lost 46-10 at home to Brynawr.

Meanwhile, Nelson‘s trip to Blaenavon was called off, while Senghenydd‘s visit to Talywain was also off.

There was joy for Blackwood RFC in League Two East, beating bottom-side Caerleon 12-8 away to climb into the promotion spots.

Oakdale meanwhile were handed a boost in their relegation scrap, beating Caldicot 17-15 away.

But, Caerphilly‘s bid for promotion in League Two East Central was dented by a 25-19 loss at Cilfynydd.

Over in League Three East, league leaders Abercarn suffered just their second loss of the season – 9-0 away to Abertysswg Falcons.

Meanwhile, there were defeats for Machen, who lost 13-10 at Chepstow, as well as Rhymney – who were beaten 17-10 at home to Nantyglo.

Fleur de Lys meanwhile lost 22-3 on the road at RTB Ebbw Vale – missing the chance to gain ground on second-place Blaina.

Down in League Four East, Crumlin‘s title march goes on after a 41-10 win over Blackwood Stars, who are now 16 points adrift from safety.

Fellow-strugglers Hafodyrynys lost 43-10 at Gwernyfed – meaning they are now 19 points from safety.

In the league below, leaders Pontllanfraith remain unbeaten this season after beating second-place Hollybush 21-8.

Meanwhile League Six East leaders Deri also won on the weekend – crushing Hartridge 42-10.

However, Trinant missed the chance to join Deri in the promotion places after losing 24-20 at Magor.
