Nelson Cavaliers AFC has donated to the Taff Bargoed Foodbank

A football club from Nelson has donated to a local food bank after a five-month collection.

Nelson Cavaliers AFC donated to the Taff Bargoed Foodbank after collecting tins and other items during home games since October 2023.

Three officers from the club presented the donation on February 22, including treasurer Martin Wilson, chairman Keith Downes and secretary Rod Powell.

Rod told Caerphilly Observer: “We decided as a club to have a chosen charity,” adding that supporting a local charity was important.

Taff Bargoed Foodbank, which is run by the Trussell Trust, is run out of St John’s Church Hall on Nelson High Street. It also serves residents in nearby Treharris.

Rod, who has been involved with the Cavaliers for 40 years, said that the club has donated to “various charities” over the years.

The club has also featured the food bank as the sponsor of their second team kit this season.
