Aberbargoed Town were founded in 2017 by manager Ricky Vaughan

Aberbargoed Town Football Club are hoping to lift four trophies this season, and have already booked their spot in one cup final.

Manager Ricky Vaughan was one of the club’s founding members in 2017, and after leaving for a short spell, he told Caerphilly Observer how he’s now got the “atmosphere back within the club”.

He continued: “We’ve had a very good season. We’re currently third in Gwent Premier with games in hand so we’re hoping to gain promotion this season.

“We’ve got a great group of local lads who all love playing and I think that’s put the atmosphere back within the club.”

Its allowed Aberbargoed Town to grow to the point where they now field two sides, having adopted a “never turn a player away” policy.

Manager Vaughan continued: “There were talks of a merge with the Buds a couple years back, but we pulled out of that and it’s allowed us to keep our identity.

“We never turn a player away and everyone involved has helped us on this successful run the past few years.”

The club, who play at Blackwood Stute, have made it to the Gwent County Intermediate Cup final where they’ll face Alway FC on Saturday May 25.

On the cup run, Vaughan said: “We’ve had a really tough run actually, often away from home. We’re still on for the quadruple which is great too.”
