Pengam Library is being refurbished

Pengam Library is set to reopen in May following a five-month refurbishment.

The library, on Ivor Street, has been closed since the Christmas holidays, while work has been carried out.

The “modern” refurbishment has been funded by a Welsh Government grant, Caerphilly County Borough Council confirmed.

A new Welsh language Flying Start unit is also being built on the land next to the library.

Flying Start helps families with children under the age of four in disadvantaged areas of Wales.

The new childcare service will mean that the library will reduce in size – but services will be unaffected.

A council spokesperson said: “Pengam Library is temporarily closed with a new Welsh language Flying Start facility being built on the land next to the library itself.

“Whilst the library will reopen in a slightly reduced space, there will be no loss to any of the services we currently offer and will reopen in a modern, refurbished library setting.”
