A police community support officer for Blackwood has won praise from the mayor for making a “very positive impact” on the town.

PCSO Adrian Popa is leaving his post so he can begin training as a police constable.

On behalf of the town, Blackwood mayor George Edwards thanked PCSO Popa for his “hard work and dedication” and his “extremely proactive approach” to tackling antisocial behaviour.

“We are extremely sad to be losing Adrian as he has always communicated and engaged with stakeholders on a regular basis and gave effective feedback,” Cllr Edwards said.

“His partnership working is second to none with all local organisations in Blackwood and the surrounding community.

“Adrian has regularly attended Blackwood Town Council meetings and has had regular surgeries with the elected members and the public in Blackwood, keeping them informed of all issues.”

As well as his community links, PCSO Popa has had a tangible impact on tackling bad behaviour in the town, Cllr Edwards said.

“Antisocial behaviour has decreased in Blackwood town due to his hard work and commitment to tackling issues in a reasonable and effective manner,” he added.

“As elected members we hope that whoever replaces him will be able to live to his high standards and work ethos in our communities.

“We would like to wish Adrian all the very best for what the future may have in store for him as he will be a valued asset wherever he goes.”

Gwent Police inspector Oliver Petty said the force was “delighted” to hear of the warm words for PCSO Popa’s work.

“An important part of neighbourhood policing is getting out in the community and talking with residents, businesses and partners to understand concerns,” Insp Petty said.

“Our community support officers are committed to addressing these concerns and making Blackwood as safe as it can possibly be.

“We are delighted with the recognition that Adrian Popa has received in his role as a PCSO.

“We look forward to supporting him as he takes the next step in his career with Gwent Police, as he trains to become a police constable.”
