Bargoed in Bloom is returning for 2024 and there is a hope that it can be “bigger and brighter” than before.
The initiative aims to bring a bit of colour and more visitors to the town.
Started in 2023 by Murray’s pub, the event asks businesses to get involved by decorating their exteriors.
The winning business will receive a prize sponsored by Bargoed Town Council.
Along with this, residents can get involved and make their own knitted and crocheted flowers.
These are the same kind which inspired five-year-old Oliver Powell to write a heartfelt thank you letter.

People can get involved by:
- Making flowers at home and sending them to Bargoed Town Council or Cartref Community Hall;
- Working with your craft group to produce your own display net to show in the community;
- Attending one of the craft sessions in Bargoed Library, St Gwladys Church Hall, or Gilfach Bargoed Community Centre;
- Going along to one of the sessions at Cartref Community Hall on either Tuesday or Friday mornings to help sew the displays on the nets.
Cllr Dawn Ingram-Jones, who represents Aberbargoed and Bargoed on Caerphilly County Council, said: “Bargoed Town Council’s floral displays, Bargoed in Bloom, and Bargoed May Fair combined should make the town more vibrant and improve the wellbeing of shoppers and visitors.
“I am really excited about the extra events Bargoed Town Council are running this year, including the summer music festival in July.
“We are delivering more for the town every year and hope we continue to do so. We would welcome suggestions for future events or projects and would very much like to work in partnership with local not-for-profit organisations.”
If anyone needs supplies, they should contact Cartref Community Hall or speak to one of the Bargoed town councillors.
