Council planners have rejected a primary school’s application to extend its kitchen.

Ysgol Gynradd Gymraeg y Castell, in Caerphilly, wanted to add a “small prefabricated extension” to its site “to enlarge existing school kitchen facilities”.

But planning officers said the original school had “previously been extended multiple times in excess of 100 square metres”.

A number of “modern additions” have been built on the school site, facing onto Heol Trecastell, council planners said in their report.

The proposal to extend the site further meant the school would “exceed” planning thresholds.

As a result, the council refused the school’s application for a lawful development certificate for the kitchen extension.

Instead, the school will have to secure specific planning permission if it wishes to continue with its proposals.
