At risk of relegation, Caerphilly Athletic have finished the season strong with a 3-1 win over table-topping Bridgend Street.
The South Wales Alliance Premier Division side were teetering on the edge of relegation with a few games to go, but that win puts them mathematically safe of the drop, having been promoted last season.
When the pair met at the Centre for Sporting Excellence on Wednesday May 1, Bridgend Street had a lot to play for, sitting top of the table, four points clear of second.
With the game on the line for both, it was Caerphilly who started the fastest; James Harvey with the first goal after six minutes.
Caerphilly’s Jonathan Davies scored the second soon after, leaving Bridgend Street with work to do.
It took until the 56th minute for the visitors to pull one back thanks to Ben Siggins, only to suffer a red card ten minutes later.
Rhys McCarthy scored almost immediately after to restore Caerphilly’s two goal cushion, which they kept for the rest of the match.
