First Minister Carwyn Jones and Islwyn MP Chris Evans have praised Newbridge electronics company Axiom Manufacturing Services.

The Labour politicians hailed the success of the firm, which employs 170, after a recent visit.

Mr Jones said: “This company is proof that manufacturing in Wales is alive and kicking. Firms across the country are making products wanted across the globe.

“Axiom is a significant employer in the area and has strong links with the local community. Its success has come from its ability to adapt to changing circumstances and create a world class product.”

The company, which saw record growth last month, provides electronics to firms in the medical, industrial, defence and aerospace sectors.

Mr Evans said the success of the firm is evidence of why Islwyn has all the facilities for business to thrive.

He said: “Axiom is a prime example of a company taking full advantage of the facilities on offer here. Despite all the doom and gloom you read in the press about the manufacturing industry, the success that Axiom is enjoying shows that we are bucking the trend in Islwyn.

“I pay tribute to all the staff at Axiom. Their recent growth figures are something everybody in Islwyn can be proud of and I wish them continued success.”

David Davies, managing director at Axiom, said: “We are proud to be based in Wales and always look to recruit from the local community and place a firm focus on people development.”
