Blood donation hubs are coming to Caerphilly County Borough in June

Blood donation hubs are returning to Caerphilly County Borough over the coming weeks, the Welsh Blood Service has announced.

The hubs will be based at Newbridge Leisure Centre, Trecenydd Community Centre, Bryn Meadows, and Blackwood’s Home Bargains store.

When will the blood donation hubs be open?

Newbridge Leisure Centre – Thursday May 30

Trecenydd Community Centre – Tuesday June 4

Bryn Meadows – Tuesday June 11

Blackwood Home Bargains – Monday June 17

A Welsh Blood Service spokesperson said: “Unfortunately, our blood stocks are currently lower than we’d like them to be.

“The Welsh Blood Service aims to collect 350 donations a day to keep up with hospital demand. Due to the recent bank holiday, we’ve lost a day’s worth of collections.”

They continued: “Currently only 3% of the population donate blood. Each donation can save three lives or six premature babies.

“It’s a wonderful way to support your community and help save lives all over Wales.

“We supply 19 hospitals in Wales, and last month in April, we supplied Aneurin Bevan Health board with 877 units of blood.

“These donations help provide the treatments patients need for their care, from helping mums and newborn babies to helping cancer patients through their chemotherapy treatments.”

Visit the Welsh Blood Service’s website to make an appointment to donate blood.
