It was tough going for Caerphilly-based clubs this weekend as rain halted play and conditions were difficult.
In division two of the South East Wales Cricket League, Blackwood’s game was cancelled leaving just Newbridge Cricket Club to search for their third win in a row.
At home to second placed St Fagans, Newbridge batted first and set a healthy run total of 186 for the visitors to chase.
Due to bad weather, St Fagans had that target revised down to 172, which they just about managed with a few balls remaining to win by three wickets.
After that loss, Newbridge sit seventh in the division.
There were lots of postponements in division three, but Machen managed to get their game underway against table topping Radyr.
Visiting Machen batted first and set a total of 171, which was also revised down to 101 after some bad weather.
In just 14 overs, hosts Radyr caught Machen having lost only one wicket. They sit sixth after that loss.
There was better news down in division four as Pontymister and Crosskeys travelled to Barry.
The visitors were up first to bat and set a very nice total of 189 runs for the hosts to chase.
Bottom of the league Barry couldn’t manage, eventually all out after 32 overs; 32 runs short.
That win boosts Pontymister up to sixth, tied on points with fifth.
Abercarn’s game in division seven was cancelled due to bad weather.
It was a very low scoring affair down in division ten between Great Western Railway (GWR) and Cefn Fforest and Maesycwmmer.
Visiting Cefn Fforest set a total of just 64 runs for GWR to chase, all out after 29 overs.
The hosts made lightwork of that total, winning by six wickets after 24 overs. Cefn Fforest are one from bottom after that loss with just one win all season.
